Job Purpose The Laboratory Technician is an entry‑level position that provides key support for the Quality Department including water testing, raw milk testing, raw and pasteurized load‑out testing, finished product testing, microbiological testing, chemical titrations, and work‑in‑process testing. The technician will generate daily reports, enter data, assist in project work, file, conduct special studies, calibrations, data collection, and communicate with other departments.

Responsibilities

Operate lab testing instrumentation correctly (moisture/solids, protein, fat, pH, microbiological plating, FOSS analytical equipment, pH meter, and other instrumentation as needed).

Operate all instrumentation safely, efficiently, and sanitarily.

Perform daily quality line audits, evaluations, and testing on the plant floor as assigned.

Perform sensory evaluations on all finished products.

Fill out required laboratory data worksheets and logs accurately.

Maintain all results and reports confidentially per the Company Letter of Confidentiality.

Keep a clean, orderly, and neat work area at all times.

Keep the area stocked with sufficient supplies.

Use Microsoft Word and Excel.

Communicate results to the appropriate individuals timely, confidentially, and professionally.

Prepare all solutions and media required for laboratory tests.

Notify the Quality Assurance Manager and operations supervisors of any unusual results or product defects; perform necessary re‑checks for analytical and microbiological tests.

Report immediately any damage, irregular activity, or unsafe conditions concerning plant equipment or lab instrumentation.

Follow all safety, work, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and GLP rules.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills / Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience in a laboratory setting required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Sitting/Standing/Walking/Lifting/Carrying:

100% standing, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Pushing/Pulling/Bending/Stooping:

small items on counters, dolly for supplies, occasional bending.

Squatting/Kneeling/Twisting/Turning:

squat, kneel, bend, twist to access items.

Climbing/Balancing/Reaching:

climb small ladder or footstool, reach overhead, pull supplies.

Grasping/Manipulating:

various tasks requiring grasping.

Food Safety Requirements

Notify supervision of repairs or adjustments that may affect product quality or food safety.

Understand and comply with the color‑coded container policy while in production areas.

Perform duties necessary to meet Company, Customer, and Government requirements/standards.

Initiate action to prevent nonconformities relating to Food Safety and product quality.

Identify and record problems relating to Food Safety and quality.

Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product until corrected.

Absence duties assumed by another employee with the same skill level.
