Grant Accountant

Job Description We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Grant Accountant to manage an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and comfortable working with government and private funders while maintaining strict compliance and accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities Grant Accounting/Billing
Prepare financial reports and invoices for all assigned grants to ensure timely and accurate submission to government agencies and private foundations
Ensure financial compliance with all funding requirements and regulations
Prepare journal entries and allocations as needed
Respond to funder-related inquiries from internal stakeholders and external agencies
Assist in preparing for funder desk audits
Maintain updated and accurate financial records, files, and supporting documentation
Special Projects
Assist the Director of Budgets and Grants Management with special financial reports, projections, and ad hoc requests
Maintain the database of administrative contracts, including running queries, generating reports, and entering updates
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business required
2–3 years of grant accounting experience required
Familiarity with government funders such as private foundations, NYC, and NYS agencies (DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, etc.) required
Strong proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, IF functions) and Word
Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
Ability to understand the financial impact of budgets and contracts across an organization
Familiarity with PASSPort, HHS Accelerator, and Grants Gateway preferred
Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance preferred
