Description Ground CCT Medic

This position is eligible for the Paramedic Commitment Incentive Program, which offers $5,000 to experienced Paramedics, paid in equal installments over a 3‑year period.

Carolina Air Care is a CAMTS accredited critical care and emergency transportation agency. It operates 4 helicopters and a fleet of ambulances. Bases are in Burlington, Aberdeen, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount. Rotor‑wing aircraft are staffed by a nurse and a paramedic and respond to emergency and inter‑facility transfers. Ground assets are throughout the Triangle. In addition to Critical Care Transport teams, we have two Neonatal Specialty Care Teams. The Education Team maintains high standards.

Summary Provide safe and timely ground transport of patients while delivering basic and critical care life support.

Responsibilities

Monitors patient condition during ground transport to provide optimal stabilization through a critical‑care level of expertise, including mechanical ventilation, ECMO, balloon pump, ventricular assist devices, and advanced monitoring.

Monitors communication equipment and communicates with dispatch personnel, medical staff, family members, and other stakeholders, ensuring relevant information is collected and proper treatment is administered.

Documents patient status, delivery of care, and evaluation of response to care according to unit‑specific procedures and established protocols.

Contacts physicians for guidance as needed, following treatment protocols described by UNC Hospitals Critical Care Transport Medical Direction.

Operates various medical and mechanical equipment in the pre‑hospital, hospital, and aviation environment, ensuring equipment is functional and operational; restocks supplies and notifies staff of needed repairs.

Obtains direction regarding further advanced care from medical staff; delivers emergency and critical care such as rapid‑sequence induction, medication‑assisted intubation, surgical airway, thoracostomy tubes, central line management, blood product infusion, temperature management, fetal heart monitoring, and central line placement per protocols under UNC Hospitals Critical Care Transport Medical Direction.

Participates in plan of care for critical patients and requires transport from referring institutions while using advanced medications to control blood pressure, heart rate, arrhythmias, and sedation.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Licensure / Certification Requirements

North Carolina EMT‑Paramedic certification or national equivalent; ability to obtain NC Paramedic within 30 days of hire.

National Registry Paramedic required within 12 months of hire.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider certification.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification.

Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification.

Trauma certification (ITLS, PHTLS, or TNCC).

Professional certification (CCEMT‑P preferred, FPC or CCP‑C) required within 18 months of hire.

Valid NC driver’s license in good standing, or ability to obtain prior to start. NC, VA, SC, and TN are acceptable.

Professional Experience Requirements

Three (3) years of Paramedic experience in a high volume ALS EMS service or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

Demonstrated ability to provide critical care transport and manage complex medical equipment.

Proficiency in communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Strong documentation and procedural compliance.
