Overview Sentara Healthcare is currently hiring for an RN to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Ortho/Joint 3 West Unit. Sign on Bonus up to $15,000 for experienced nurses and $7,500 for New Grads!

Department / Position Overview The 3 West Ortho is a 12-bed unit that accommodates a variety of post‑operative surgical procedures including total hip, knees, shoulders, ankles & spine. We do anywhere from 10‑20+ surgical admissions & discharges per week, so we have a quick patient turnover. Because most of our patients are admitted via elective procedure, the patient population is very thankful for our staff and has an anticipated plan of care managing pain, physical therapy & monitoring postoperative complications. We enforce more independence by promoting mobility which decreases the amount of total care patients we have, which is also a bonus for our small unit.

What makes it great to be an RN on our unit? I pride myself on having a team of nurses who are passionate about what they do. This increases their ability to provide a positive work environment where each staff member works together to complete their daily tasks through the busy days of a bedside nurse. Our unit coordinators work closely with all bedside nurses & especially new nurses to ensure they become comfortable & confident in the care they provide. If you ask my nurses “What is working well at work?” they will tell you “It’s my team & the teamwork that gets me through each day”. Being a small unit specializing in orthopedics almost all of our patients have a very similar plan of care & daily routine that provides our nurses with the ability to have a systematic workflow throughout their shift. Our unit works closely with three orthopedic surgical groups that always have genuinely dedicated Nurse Practitioners & Physician Assistants on site or easily accessible enhancing the care we can provide to our patients in a timely manner without impeding our workflow. As a manager, I am hands on with patient care & assisting with any needs, flexible & easy to talk to. Lastly, we enjoy listening to music & having pizza parties frequently to enhance our positivity & fuel our motivation.
