Safe Horizon’s mission is to provide support, prevent violence and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities.
The DV Shelter Program offers safe and confidential spaces for survivors and their children, delivered with empathy, compassion, professionalism, non‑judgement, and respect. The program is built around survivors’ right to self‑determination, focusing on providing the emotional and physical space needed to heal from victimization and trauma.
Responsibilities:
Learn and integrate a trauma‑informed, client‑centered approach, using an anti‑oppressive lens, into work with clients; coach and guide staff in these practices.
Manage day‑to‑day operations of the shelter program, including resident‑centered practice and vicarious trauma prevention.
Mediating disputes and addressing grievances from a trauma‑informed perspective.
Recruit, hire, coach, mentor, and supervise a multidisciplinary onsite staff team, addressing vicarious trauma for themselves and staff members.
Ensure staff receive high‑quality bi‑weekly individual and monthly group supervision that reflects resident‑centered practice and addresses vicarious trauma.
Oversee billing processes, meet utilization targets, manage expenses, monitor resident resources, and maintain accurate documentation (electronic and hard copies).
Administer the shelter program’s fiscal management, including budget, billing, and compliance with agency, city, state, and federal regulations; complete program audits.
Collaborate with internal departments (Training, Administration, HR, Development, Finance, Legal, etc.) and develop partnerships with community‑based organizations.
Grow donor relationships in partnership with Development; host donor tours and coordinate special events; develop scattered sites as needed.
Qualifications:
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff; use client‑centered practice skills.
Use neutral, non‑judgmental language when engaging with clients; understand and respond to vicarious trauma.
Engage clients from a trauma‑informed perspective.
Be flexible, patient, and able to juggle multiple roles simultaneously.
Requirements:
Graduate degree in Human Services or a related field, and at least four years of relevant experience operating a facility or working with domestic violence survivors.
At least one year of supervisory experience.
Schedule:
Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote per week.
