Exemption Status: Non‑Exempt

Hiring Range: $16.54 – $29.76 (final offer may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations)

Schedule Details: Holidays – Every Other Holiday, Monday through Friday; Weekends – Every Third Weekend

Scheduled Hours: 1100 – 2330

Shift: 2 – Evening Shift, 12 Hours (United States of America)

Hours: 24

Cost Center: 26000 – 2340 Emergency Room

Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, the ED Technician assists the nursing staff in the care of patients. The ED Tech is responsible for performing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as delegated by the Registered Nurse.

Major Responsibilities Patient Care Support

Assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., hygiene, ambulation, toileting, nourishment).

Obtains specimens and performs measurements (e.g., vital signs, EKGs, blood glucose).

Assists in exams and treatments (e.g., CPR, IV discontinuation, sterile tray setup).

Applies protective and therapeutic devices as instructed.

Transports patients and equipment safely.

Operational Support

Maintains and cleans equipment.

Stocks and prepares rooms with necessary supplies.

Cleans rooms and stretchers between patients using hospital‑approved disinfectants.

Communication and Documentation

Communicates clearly and promptly with RNs regarding patient status.

Documents all care activities in the medical record.

Reports physical or behavioral changes in patients to the RN.

Age‑Specific Competency

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.

License/Certification/Education Position Qualifications Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

Certification or licensure in one of the following: Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, EMT/EMT‑I

Current CPR certification

Nursing students who have completed their first clinical rotation may be considered equivalent to Nurse Aide Certification

Previous experience in a medical‑related field

Knowledge of medical terminology

Preferred Qualifications

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department‑specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
