Base pay range: $47,931.00/yr - $47,931.00/yr

Marketing Statement Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.

Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position: This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x‑ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials. All personnel perform related work.

Performs complex activities of a higher-technical level in the delivery of radiographic services. May be responsible for the supervision of assigned radiographic and ancillary personnel.

Examples of Typical Tasks

Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.

Prepares patient for x‑ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.

Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x‑rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.

Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.

Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.

Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.

Transports and uses mobile x‑ray equipment in patient care area as required.

Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.

Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.

Additional responsibilities at higher level include:

Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.

Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.

Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.

Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.

Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x‑ray procedures.

Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x‑ray procedures.

Plans, schedules and coordinates the day‑to‑day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.

Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.

Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
