What This Job Will Do We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Accountant to manage payroll operations and support general accounting functions. This role will ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing while assisting with core accounting activities such as reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on professional who thrives in a dynamic, growing organization.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration
Manage end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Partner with ADP (HRIS/payroll system) and John Hancock (401k administrator) to ensure seamless payroll delivery
Oversee all payroll tax filings and compliance, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, providing responsive and professional employee support
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, ensuring accuracy in employee compensation
Prepare and submit payroll and compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders
Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure data integrity and compliance
Support integration of acquired companies into payroll systems, ensuring consistency and compliance across entities
Collaborate with HR and Accounting to align payroll strategies with company goals
Accounting Support
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and reconciliations
Record and maintain financial transactions in the general ledger
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and timely
Prepare and post journal entries as part of month‑end and year‑end close
Reconcile bank accounts and resolve discrepancies
Support tax filings, audits, and compliance activities
Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation
Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date financial data
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
5+ years of progressive payroll and accounting experience, preferably in a growing company environment
Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll compliance, and employment regulations
Hands‑on experience with ADP Workforce Now
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, dashboards) and the full Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica, NetSuite, or similar platforms
Excellent analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
Effective communication and vendor management skills
Self‑starter capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
