Animal Research Technician Job Duration:

12 months contract Location:

Athens, GA 30601 Work schedule:

M-F 8-4:30, 40 hrs/week. Weekend OT required once a month

Possible conversion

to full time role as vacancies become available.

Job Description

Performs animal husbandry and health care in accordance with experimental protocol and relevant regulations. Assists with scientific procedures, maintains documentation, sanitizes equipment, and supports facility maintenance. Works in a Biosafety Level 1 and 2 laboratory. Provides guidance to junior team members and may serve as site representative on committees and workgroups.

Supports the discovery, development, and delivery of products. Contributes to the company’s global presence, collaboration, and success. Receives competitive compensation and benefits.

Duties & Responsibilities

Complies with regulations and policies, documents and maintains records. Provides animal husbandry and care, maintains pens, feeds, water systems, and equipment. Performs cleaning and sanitation. May supervise junior team members.

Restrains and manipulates animals for procedures; recognizes abnormal conditions; communicates observations; conducts health assessments; administers treatments.

Conducts scientific observations and disease outcome assessments; administers experimental treatments as per protocols, records scientific data.

Under supervision, may administer sedation and conduct euthanasia per protocols.

Performs site biosecurity functions including sanitation and environmental auditing.

Assists with clinical R&D sample collection pre- and post-mortem and conducts necropsies as directed.

Skills

Physical Demands / Surroundings:

Able to work in extreme environments, heavy lifting up to 70 lbs occasionally. Willing to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures. Must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.

Visual Demands:

Must read and see clearly; prescription eyewear allowed.

Even temperament, results oriented, cooperative, systematic thinker, works in multidisciplinary matrix, demonstrates sound judgment and analytical thinking, manages processes and projects, functions well in team or committee roles.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
