SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Senior Clinical Dietitians Specialists and the Clinical Nutrition Director/Supervisor, provides nutritional care to Brown University Health hospital patients. Interacts with patients and/or family members, reviews electronic health records, and develops nutrition plans of care. Monitors indicators and outcomes related to nutrition diagnosis, evaluates progress, documents patient progress, and directs support personnel activities. RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses accurate data to identify nutrition-related problems and assesses personal, medical, family, psychosocial history.
Assesses anthropometric indicators, laboratory profiles, and medical tests; performs nutrition-focused physical examinations.
Obtains food and nutrition history, estimates nutrient needs and recommended body weight, and collects and reviews data from dietetic technicians and other practitioners.
Documents nutritional care plans in the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care, monitors status, and updates plans per departmental standards.
Participates in discharge planning, conducts individual and group nutrition education, and represents Food & Nutrition Services at interdisciplinary meetings.
Engages in patient satisfaction initiatives, quality improvement programs, community and media programs as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or related concentration from a US accredited institution approved by ACEND.
Completed ACEND accredited supervised practice program and passed the national examination for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN). Must provide scheduled registration exam date if registration eligible.
License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Rhode Island within 3 months of hire. Proof of application for license to be submitted upon employment.
Thorough understanding of nutrition principles applied to adult and pediatric disease states and the nutrition care process.
EXPERIENCE
One to two years of experience as a Clinical Dietitian preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sits, stands, and walks intermittently; may lift up to 10 pounds; hazards minimized with safety precautions; travel to off-site facilities may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None.
PAY RANGE $27.57 - $45.48
