Job Description
Assessment, stabilization, and treatment of neonates/pediatric patients according to policies, procedures and protocols established for respiratory services at AHT.
Properly performs hemodynamic procedures including assembly and calibration of arterial lines, assisting with pulmonary artery catheter insertion, calibration; performs cardiac output and hemodynamic/cardiopulmonary profiles. May perform arterial/venous cannulation under direct supervision, or independently after completion of documented competency.
Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction and new orientee staff precepting and serves as a resource person to lower-level therapists. Serves as a consultant/resource for Pediatric Emergency department respiratory patients.
Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics.
Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis.
Documents and charges for procedures neatly, accurately, thoroughly, and completely to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.
Responds to Code Blue emergencies, providing CPR and performing airway maintenance and procedural respiratory support.
Utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, and multidisciplinary team consultations to determine therapy efficacy and make appropriate recommendations.
Performs respiratory therapies, oxygen delivery therapies, and makes recommendations for efficient delivery methods.
Obtains, analyzes, and reports findings of arterial blood gases, co-oximetry, and performs quality controls.
Initiates, maintains, transports, and monitors mechanical ventilators, including conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation.
Assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures, including equipment setup and breakdown.
Provides effective patient education on therapy modalities to patients and their families.
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control methods, safe body mechanics, and applicable regulations and standards.
Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established standards and training.
Interprets evaluations and test results to determine appropriate treatment plans in consultation with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Assesses, stabilizes, and treats neonates and pediatric patients according to established respiratory services protocols.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) – RQI Resuscitation Quality Improvement
Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) – RQI Resuscitation Quality Improvement
NBRC Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (CRT‑NPS) – EV Accredited Issuing Body
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – EV Accredited Issuing Body
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Cert (PALS) – RQI Resuscitation Quality Improvement
State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – EV Accredited Issuing Body
