As a Surgery Technician at VCVS, you will play a critical role in supporting veterinarians throughout the entire surgical process from pre‑operative preparation through anesthesia monitoring and post‑operative recovery. You will work closely with board‑certified specialists and a collaborative hospital team to ensure the highest standards of care, safety, and outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, ensuring efficiency and patient safety
Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving, cleaning, and disinfecting surgical sites
Monitor anesthesia and vital signs throughout procedures
Maintain sterile surgical environments and properly handle surgical instruments
Provide attentive post‑operative care and closely monitor patient recovery
Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
Educate pet owners on post‑surgical care, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions
Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and documentation
Sterilize, organize, and maintain surgical equipment and instruments
Assist with the development and implementation of surgical protocols and best practices
Ensure compliance with all veterinary regulations, hospital policies, and safety standards
Qualifications & Skills
Experience working in a veterinary surgical setting preferred
Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT)
Graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technician program
Strong knowledge of anesthesia monitoring and patient safety
Proficiency with surgical instrument handling and care
Familiarity with veterinary EMR systems
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient in high‑stress situations
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes safely
Compassion for animals and dedication to exceptional patient care
Basic animal CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
