The Wake County Health and Human Services School Health Program provides School Health Services for 199 Wake County Public Schools. Each school nurses serves 2 schools which may be any combination of preschool, elementary, middle, and/or high schools. Nurses spend 2 days a week at one school and 3 days a week at the other school. School nurses work 8-hour days Monday through Friday and must be present in assigned schools during regular school hours. Responsibilities of the school nurse include:
Nursingassessment
Health careplan development and implementation
Training, delegation,and supervision of unlicensed assistive personnel
Consultationwith school staff regarding student health issues
Case management/care coordination for students with chronic health conditions
Visionrescreening, referral, and follow-up
Attendance/participationin IEP/504 meetings for student’s with identified medical needs at school
Case findingstudents who may benefit from School Health Services
Collaborationwith school staff, physicians, families, and community partners to identifyand secure services for families and students
This school nurse will serve 2 schools in the
central region
of Wake County; the central Raleigh area.
**Please note that this is a10-month (part-time/.833 FTE) School Health Nurse position. This position will work from August 16 through June 15 and have June 16 through August 15 off. While this position is paid on a regular, bi-monthly basis, the salary information provided in this job post has been prorated to reflect the actual salary range for a 10-month (part-time/0.833 FTE) employee. Please note that this position is exempt (salaried) and not eligible to earn overtime.**
NOTE:Upon acceptance of employment, you acknowledge that (i) if you work in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division (including School Health,) influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law, and active support, and (ii) participation in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
No specific experience required
North Carolina Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse
CPR
AED
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
2 years or more of school health nursing, pediatric nursing, home health, or public health experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
Spanish language skills
Valid NC Driver’s License and reliable transportation
