A CNC Set-Up Operator oversees operating the computer numerical control (CNC) machine. They produce machined parts according to established parameters and specifications. CNC Operator work alongside many departments such as: Quality, Engineering, and Operations to produce high-quality products

What you’ll be doing as a CNC Set-up Operator:

Working a Full-time, onsite position at our Simi Valley, CA location.

With limited supervision, performs intermediate level machining of parts and tools

Performs in-process inspections of Level I Operators.

Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools

Understands and comprehends all forms of technical documents including blueprints and drawings, written specifications, charts, tables, etc.

Skillfully uses all machinist hand tools and measuring instruments.

Sets up and lays out own work from blueprints, sketches, and written specifications according to requirements.

Report job status to the supervisor including any malfunctions, non-conformances, damaged equipment, or other obstacles to production.

Ensure the on-time completion of tasks and reviews work for quality and completeness.

Sets up machines proficiently for each job

Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items

Produces precision parts within the allocated time listed on job traveler

Inspects machining operations and finished products against specified tolerances, using precision measuring tools - Keeps quality records for each job

Keeps machinery and tooling in good working order, according to daily, weekly, & monthly maintenance schedule

Performs in-process inspections of Level I Operators.

Make offset adjustments up to .002.

Identify and change worn and broken tools efficiently

Troubleshoot minor issues that arise after tool changes and offset adjustments.

Provide detailed tie-in notes, address, and avert issues

Ability to provide accurate descriptions of issues to higher-level machinist

Operate all machines within their Cell

Set up many of the common jobs within their Cell

Load programs into machines

Back programs up to “Machine Dump”

Interpret blueprints accurately to make necessary adjustments.

Maintains a track record of high-quality work with low rework and scrap history.

Maintains high efficiencies and run rates for given machine.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (Education, skills, and experience):

At least 3 years of experience in the manufacturing industry with knowledge of speeds and feeds

On the job experience operating the following: large vertical boring mills (vbm), Horizontal boring mills (hbm), and/or 6′ to 8′ work envelopes

Properly uses basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometer, indicators, etc.)

Able to work independently, responsible, & reliable

Working with forgings and castings

Proficient with quality tools required to do the job

Ability to work independently, follow instructions, concentrate for long periods of time

Great work ethics

Demonstrate strong attention to detail

Mechanically inclined, with good manual dexterity

Good writing and verbal communication skills

Experience with MS applications

Strong skills and aptitude in math

Completion of vocational or college training in machine shop (Certificate of completion of basic machining course

Access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

A large percentage of work time is spent in a machine shop where temperatures vary from hot to cold. The environment may also include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vapor from coolant, etc. Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required.

The CNC Set-Up Operator Compensationrange for onsite California applicants is $23/hr-$30/hr commensurate with experience. Some shifts may include shift differential pay rates. Other site ranges may differ.
