Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit night shift position in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and previous dedicated neuro unit experience.
Responsibilities
Work on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in an acute care setting
Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injury, and some medical overflow
Night shift position with 12-hour shifts (1900-0700), working three shifts per week
Every other weekend and every other holiday required
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-6 at night
Float in rotation with the rest of staff; if floated outside of unit, will only perform skills within competency and be assigned with a trained nurse for that area
Epic EMR system is used
Heparin gtt titration required; RNs must have experience with titratable drips
No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted
Main duties include providing specialized care to neuro-medical and surgical patients, including those recovering from strokes, head injuries, and neurological surgeries
Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7; charge nurse does not typically take an assignment
Nurse aides/patient care techs are present with varying ratios by shift
Housewide telemetry is utilized; nurses are not required to read telemetry strips
Two-day orientation provided, including computer and unit-specific training with an educator and preceptor
Blocking shifts possible based on staffing needs
No COVID vaccine required
No radius rule; local rates apply for candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles
Holiday and weekend rotations are required
No call or standby requirements for this position
Requirements
Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience required
BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
Must have Level 1 trauma experience
Must have prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit
Must have prior travel nursing experience; first-time travelers will not be considered
Heparin gtt experience required
Experience using Epic EMR preferred
Must provide last four digits of SSN and middle initial for consideration
Negative drug screen required for all panels
