Summary Under direct supervision of the provider, you will be responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining accurate documentation, and coordinating care to assure high quality, compassionate service.
You will oversee patients at office locations, act as liaison with other organizations and departments, and may be required to order medical, pharmacy, and office supplies.
Compliance with MyMichigan Health policies, OSHA, CLIA, and other regulations will be expected, as will training new employees, students, and float staff.
Responsibilities also include patient education, symptom management, emergency response, and general office duties such as keyboarding, filing, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
(20%) Triages all calls, schedules urgent/emergent add‑ons, receives and relays test results, processes medication refills, and refers patients for consults/testing and insurance pre‑certification.
(20%) Provides complete patient assessment within scope of licensure, performs vital signs, records objective and subjective data, reconciles orders, and updates records.
(20%) Coordinates the care team with providers and works with patients and families on disease processes and care management.
(20%) Assists the provider with examinations and procedures.
(20%) Prepares care areas, sets up equipment, cleans after procedures, disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
Demonstrates critical thinking for patient management.
Provides care that meets age‑specific needs according to standards and policies.
Maintains medical supplies to ensure consistent availability.
Operates computer systems: MAPS, MCIR, Practice Management, EMR, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems, and other programs.
May be required to travel to satellite clinics.
Documents and codes accurately per policy.
Participates in annual quality and completeness reviews.
Manages patient symptoms as directed by the provider.
Coordinates continuity of care with other providers.
Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows.
May participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
Certifications and Licensures
BLS – Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience
Within 1 month of hire or transfer.
RN – Registered Nurse (Required) Required Education
Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Comments BSN is preferred.
Experience, Training And Skills
Working knowledge of Infor, EMR, and Practice Management programs (or comparable software).
PC software knowledge: Excel and Word.
Knowledge of medical office policies, practices, and procedures (acquired through 3–5 years in the healthcare system).
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication at all levels.
Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful, public-contact, trauma, grief, and death situations.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex.
Ability to move freely without assistance and perform job functions.
Visual and hearing acuity necessary.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching).
Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; completion of required tests.
Multitasking, independence, regular attendance, and ability to stay alert.
Dexterity for hand movements; repetitive tasks may occur.
Physical Demand Level: Light – occasional lifting of 11‑20 lbs. (0‑33% of the workday).
