Radiology Assistant / Transporter The Radiology Assistant / Transporter at St. Charles Health System provides transportation of patients to and from the Radiology Services Department. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions

Follow established department procedures to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification and verifying with nursing staff.

Transport patients to and from radiology, ED, and inpatient areas via wheelchair, bed, or gurney.

Assist patients in and out of bed using proper patient care and lifting techniques.

Assist technologists with patient movement and positioning.

Observe patient and equipment during transport and report unusual occurrences; record patient’s condition to sending and/or receiving clinical staff.

Comfort patients and families, offering support and encouragement to alleviate anxiety and fear surrounding the radiology process.

Inform those accompanying the patient regarding waiting areas, expected timelines, and procedures.

Assist with non-patient transport including laboratory specimens, beds, and CDs.

Maintain safe and clean radiology transport equipment.

Safely handle medical equipment including IV pumps, poles, oxygen tanks, patient charts, monitors, and other equipment.

Assist with radiology clerical duties as requested; stock lines and supplies.

Follow safety protocols and infection control guidelines when transporting patient and equipment.

Support the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

Support Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.

Provide and maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Utilize AIDET to prepare patients for procedures and create an environment where patients feel comfortable and communicated with regarding the experience in radiology.

Deliver customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

Education Required: High school diploma or GED.

Licensure / Certification / Registration Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. BLS certification is required within six (6) months of hire.

Experience Preferred: Six (6) months hospital patient transport experience. Customer service experience.
