Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Ultrasound Technician – Per Diem – NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group.
In this role the successful candidate will perform diagnostic sonographic examinations using ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data.
The technician operates the ultrasound equipment to produce high‑quality images, performs studies in required modalities, and provides training and guidance to Ultrasound Technology students.
Job Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems; selects appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS in accordance with HIPAA regulations; schedules exams and appointments; follows departmental procedures to ensure orders are verified and processed correctly; assesses patient information and status; uses standard procedures to identify the correct patient.
Follows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine the type of protocol required; consults policy and procedure manuals; follows special instructions on requisitions; recognizes need for isolation precautions.
Independently implements patient procedures; explains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly; solves problems that arise during examinations; alters examinations to maximize information based on patient condition; consults with other technologists about previous approaches.
Demonstrates skill in equipment set‑up, utilization, and proper maintenance; performs quality‑control checks of radiographic equipment; observes and reports any malfunction; notifies appropriate persons for missing or damaged equipment.
Directs and monitors student clinical training; observes students during training; guides them to perform proper ultrasound procedures; provides information to increase their understanding; evaluates student progress; monitors the work performed by students under supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Certificate from an approved ultrasound/vascular technology education program.
Registered or registry‑eligible to take the Registry exam (ARDMS) within one year of hire date.
Required licenses: Cardiovascular Credentialed I (CCI), American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Effective communication with all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Registered as American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Registered Vascular Technologist.
