Responsibilities

Flight nurses should be knowledgeable, participate, and promote Acadian/ AirMed mission, vision, and goals.

Conduct themselves as a leader, a role model, and a clinical resource.

Participate in meetings with the Air Med Management group, including disaster drills, staff meetings, and community/hospital meetings.

Identify areas of concern and communicate with Flight Line Supervisors, Associate Quality Improvement Supervisors, Operations Manager/Supervisor, Chief Flight Nurse, and Quality Improvement Supervisor as necessary.

Promote company health and wellness programs and initiatives.

Assist and work with Associate Quality Improvement Supervisors and Flight Line Supervisors as needed.

Special project as assigned.

Safety

Communicate with Operations Manager/Supervisor and Lead Pilot to ensure timely identification of safety issues, reporting, and resolution.

Promote and uphold safety standards for self, flight line staff, and patients, including HSE standards.

Report fatigue issues as needed and consult with AMOC/Air Med management.

Performance and Education

Conduct a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist other medical personnel as necessary.

Administer prompt and efficient basic, intermediate, or advanced life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols prior to and during transport.

Provide careful handling of the patient to and from the air ambulance.

Provide safe and efficient transport of the patient in the air ambulance to the medical facility.

Provide a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.

Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment on ePCR run reports, obtain and record non‑medical patient information as required, complete other patient documentation and forms as required.

In the absence of other qualified personnel, be responsible for the use of basic extrication tools and procedures to gain access to the patient if necessary.

In the absence of other qualified personnel, be responsible for controlling the patient's surroundings to minimize further danger and control the actions of bystanders.

Follow all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.

Complete assigned station and station grounds duties.

Complete all required company reports and logs; when necessary, provide other ambulance and supervisory personnel with the information.

Possibly be temporarily assigned to a ground ambulance by Flight Line Supervisor or Operations Manager if aircraft cannot fly.

Meet and fulfill the qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician–Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic job descriptions.

Equipment / Supplies

Conduct regular aircraft inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present, clean, and in proper working order.

Upon completion of transport, be responsible for all assigned duties to restore the aircraft and equipment to service.

Have full knowledge of the ambulance's and air ambulance’s equipment and its proper use at all times.

Document and report all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments (Metro Aviation Personnel for aircraft, Materials Management for medical equipment) and to Flight Fine Supervisors and Operations Manager/Supervisor.

Employment Expectations

PHTLS, PALS, and NRP are required within 12 months of hire (in‑house training offered).

Advanced Credentials CFRN/CTRN within 18 months of hire.

Should the CAMTS standard change the advanced nursing requirement, Air Med reserves the right to change this requirement to maintain the CAMTS standard.

Required to work PRN in hospital while employed with Acadian Air Med.

Once the credential is obtained, a copy must be on file in HR and on the employee when on duty.

Air Med employees must have the following current cards on duty: Company ID, Nursing License, BLS/CPR, ACLS Card (AHA guidelines); instructor cards accepted in lieu of provider cards; applicable Driver’s License.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Registered Nurse with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent.

Body weight of 210 lbs or less in uniform.

Must be able to report to the assigned Air Med station within 90 minutes drive time from residence.

BLS, ACLS, and a valid driver’s license are required.

At least 3 years of full‑time working experience in a high‑volume Emergency Room or ICU (preferred), recent experience within the last two years.

Applicants must be able to report to the assigned Air Med station within 90 minutes of drive time.

A comprehensive interview will include a written and oral protocol assessment and a practical skills assessment.

A comprehensive work history review will be conducted before the interview by phone.
