Asthma Community Engagement Coordinator – 56058 The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) works to eliminate inequities that lead to premature mortality and to increase the visibility of socially unjust policies in New York City. CHECW focuses on social determinants of health and partners with community, faith‑based, and health care organizations to advance equity across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Harlem.

About the Role The Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health seeks two (2) Asthma Community Engagement Coordinators to establish and maintain effective relationships with key local organizations and community partners. The Coordinator will coordinate asthma promotion projects, develop outreach materials, and support community outreach activities for the Bronx Asthma Program.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain relationships with local organizations and community partners to identify and address health needs of underserved communities.

Manage special projects for the Bronx Asthma Program, including development, implementation, and evaluation of asthma promotion projects.

Coordinate activities to build partnerships and improve community‑level service coordination.

Support development of outreach materials and provide input on communication materials.

Maintain ongoing communication with community partners, local leaders, and community groups to explain program interventions and initiatives.

Coordinate activities with other agency programs and attend and deliver presentations at community meetings and events.

Supervise and train health promotion staff and interns to ensure effective program delivery.

Occasionally attend community events during the evening and on weekends.

Commitment to social justice and equity.

Experience working in low‑income communities and comfort working with diverse populations.

Excellent presentation, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

Existing knowledge of Bronx community stakeholders and positive attitude.

Strong work ethic and excellent customer‑service skills.

Bilingual or Spanish speaking – strongly encouraged.

Experience in applied public health programs and with community partners.

Strong coordination and organizational skills; detail‑oriented and able to manage projects independently.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or related activities; or

High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with at least one year of experience as described in (1).

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees with two continuous years of service may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
