Overview A 6‑month fixed‑term position with potential transition to full‑time employment. The Ostrow School of Dentistry, founded 1897, offers clinical education and expert faculty. The role provides administrative and chair‑side assisting services for clinical faculty, doctoral students, post‑doctoral students, and affiliated practices in orthodontics. No travel to other locations; the position does not supervise employees.
Responsibilities
Pre‑pares treatment/clinical areas for patient care and organizes trays and materials.
Obtains vital signs, monitors patients for complications, and cleans up after procedures; disinfects area per protocol.
Maintains inventory of disposable materials, medications, instruments, and supplies; performs audits and ensures removal of expired items.
Prepares materials for impressions and restorations; exposes, processes digital radiographs and x‑rays; practices radiation safety.
Assists residents in explaining treatment instructions and plans to Spanish‑speaking families.
Provides administrative support: scheduling, attendance records, patient registration, appointment scheduling, billing, filing, scanning, and related duties. Obtains dental history and keeps records current. Promotes inclusive relationships and upholds USC Code of Ethics.
Qualifications
Current California Registered Dental Assistant License, X‑Ray Certificate, CPR Certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification.
Minimum 3 years of chair‑side experience in a dental environment or private practice across recognized disciplines.
Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance, PPE, dental terminology, sterilization, instrument management, and high‑volume fast‑paced environments.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal patient service skills, ability to multitask, and a collaborative work style.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
