Job Description The Staff Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Assess and record patient status and identify care needs upon admission/point of care entry.
Organize assessment health data so that it is accurate, complete, and accessible.
Identify problems that require immediate attention.
Validate diagnoses with patient/family and healthcare team members.
Document diagnoses to facilitate expected outcomes and plan of care.
Initiate and update the problem list at admission, incorporating age‑specific care principles.
Document that the individualized plan of care has been discussed with and agreed upon by patient/family.
Begin discharge planning at admission; consult with patient/family and team on discharge plan.
Identify teaching needs on admission and throughout the hospital stay.
Arrange conferences with patient/family and team when needed to plan care.
Prioritize and organize evidence‑based nursing interventions reflecting established standards of care.
Provide individualized, mutually agreeable education grounded in evidence‑based practice.
Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
Review patient health data consistently to keep the Plan of Care updated.
Ensure revisions to the plan of care are systematic, ongoing, and driven by measurable goals.
Document patient progress toward identified outcomes.
Identify unmet outcomes and direct continuity of care.
Reassess nursing actions for effectiveness in achieving desired outcomes.
Communicate with patient/family and the healthcare team regarding patient care and nursing’s role.
Collaborate with the patient/family and team on the patient’s progress/plan of care.
Present relevant patient information at multidisciplinary meetings for peer feedback.
Make appropriate referrals as needed for continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with others
Strong analytical abilities
Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of first day of employment in a clinical nurse role
Additional requirements for specific units (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within one year of hire, as applicable
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a specific clinical area
Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
Emergency Communications Registered Nurse certification
Pediatric Nurse Certified
Emergency Nurse Certified
