Summary Up to $14,000 sign on bonus for qualified candidates. This position requires basic knowledge of neuroscience and general medical overflow diagnoses, and is able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for these patients.

Employees in the casual position must pick up shifts as outlined in the Midland Nursing Casual Employee Policy.

Responsibilities

(30%) Regularly assess patients/clients needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of nursing practice.

(30%) Provide direct patient care, including medication administration, treatments, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, etc.

(20%) Evaluate effectiveness of treatment plan and make suggestions or participate in updating/revising the plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.

(10%) Process physician/provider orders and perform physician ordered care accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.

(10%) Follow up regarding medication changes and order clarifications.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate ability to interpret information and report pertinent data to the physician, including pertinent clinical information.

Assess learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural/spiritual variables.

Provide education to meet the individual needs and ability to learn.

Participate in care conferences as assigned.

Develop and maintain good working rapport with interdisciplinary personnel to meet the needs of each patient.

Coordinate care provided by patient care technicians.

Organize and prioritize the needs of groups of patients or an individual patient.

Manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit.

Instruct other team members when appropriate, explaining goals and rationale for individualized care.

Implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Demonstrate understanding of clinical pathways and utilize appropriately. Remain calm and efficient when working in stressful situations.

Document in an accurate, clear, and concise way and include pertinent clinical data.

Share information and report significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members.

Participate in regulatory surveys.

Participate in performance improvement activities.

Assist with orientation and ongoing competencies.

Provide a safe and secure environment for patient care.

Attend and participate in professional association activities and programs to remain current on regulations, guidelines, and professional standards.

Stay current on new developments by reading professional journals and attending seminars.

Demonstrate understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures.

Perform and document neurological assessments on all neuro patients, on admission and in accordance with established standards.

Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of neuro disease processes by correlating assessment findings with nursing knowledge to formulate interdisciplinary care plans that are measurable and achievable.

Implement and monitor teaching plans that assist patients in adapting to needed lifestyle changes.

Make appropriate team assignments based on staff expertise and patient need.

Monitor and initiate need to institute safety measures to prevent patient injury.

All other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

BLS: Basic Life Support – Equivalent experience within 3 months of hire or transfer into position.

RN: Registered Nurse – Equivalent experience within 3 months of hire or transfer into position.

TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Equivalent experience within 6 months of hire or transfer. Employees hired on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification.

ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Equivalent experience within 12 months of hire or transfer into position.

DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man (Telemetry Monitoring and Management) – Employees hired after Jan 1, 2025 must take, and pass, Telemetry Monitoring and management class within 12 months of hire or transfer.

NIHSS: National Institute of Health Stroke Scale – Equivalent experience within 6 months of hire or transfer into position.

Required Education

Associate degree (ASSOC). Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Specialization: NRG.

Other Information

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels.

Required to take 8 hours of stroke training annually.

Must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. May be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

Physical & Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required.

Must be able to move freely through facility, with or without an assisted device, and perform job functions as outlined in job description.

Vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assistive devices.

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods. May require postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Must handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay awake.

Dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetition of movements regularly.

Physical demand level: Medium. Occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs, frequently 20 lbs, and constantly 10 lbs.
