Get to know Thompson Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based/evidence‑informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0‑18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Youth Care Specialist?

Provide crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and behavior modification techniques to youth who have night‑to‑night placement in DSS offices and/or have limited stability in their home.

Respond to client intervention requests, coordinate sessions, de‑escalate youth, and complete documentation.

Maintain an on‑call schedule for weekends and demonstrate flexibility.

What does this position offer?

Pay Range: $17‑$21 hourly.

Requirements

High School diploma; Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required (based on life experience).

At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably working with youth within a secure residential facility and/or a behavioral health setting.

Experience working in an on‑call or shift‑based setting.

Proficient in MS Office suite.

Valid driver’s license (and meet any credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as it pertains to the department).

Must pass a drug screening test and an extensive background check.
