Job Description – Road Design Supervisor – Butte District (25142978)
Position Title The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Road Design Supervisor in the Butte District.
Overview This position performs supervision, crew management, and complex engineering design work in the planning and design of roads and related facilities for many projects of varying complexity on Montana's interstate, primary, secondary, and urban highway systems.

Responsibilities
Supervise, manage and coordinate crew activities on road design and construction projects.
Plan, schedule and monitor project design work ensuring quality and adherence to timelines and cost constraints.
Design road facilities and related highway assets using engineering standards, applicable federal and local guidelines and computer‑assisted design software.
Provide technical guidance to design team members and coordinate design activities with other state and federal agencies and the public.
Interpret and apply site‑specific data, construct design concepts and provide detailed design calculations and reports.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible direct highway design experience.
One (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience.
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of at least one CADD class.
Alternative Qualifications
Associate degree in a related field plus four years of progressively responsible direct highway design experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of progressively responsible direct highway design experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of highway engineering design concepts, road construction processes and applicable standards and guidelines.
Skill in the use of engineering office instruments, equipment and computers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate orally and in writing, coordinate activities of subordinates, and apply engineering knowledge to complex, innovative design assignments.
