Provide oversight and coordination of activities within the Technology Center, which includes component, product, and systems testing. Responsible for managing and leading a team in conducting tests and specialty projects related to automotive product validation. Supervise work, which is highly technical in nature, and involves the design and/or fabrication of special test devices and equipment. Responsible for efficient utilization of labor, material, and equipment. Responsible for ensuring cost competitive structure and process for the lab with focus on maximizing equipment utilization.

Responsibilities of Position

Train and develop technology center staff and manage the performance of the team.

Drive standardization of test methods, set-up, procedure and reporting.

Manage the operation of the lab to realize efficient, reliable, impartial and accurate testing and analysis.

Engage, collaborate, and coordinate with the internal Global Lab Network.

Conduct benchmarking activities to compare test costs against regional and Global alternatives.

Identify opportunities to optimize lab performance and efficiency and implement improvements and maximize equipment utilization.

Ensure on-time completion of testing in accordance with test schedule.

Develop KPI metrics to support business success.

Establish and manage annual budget required to support company financial plans. Monitor and react to non-conformities.

Ensure compliance to ISO17025 laboratory quality standard and corporate IATF16949 requirements.

Support root cause analysis of test failures relative to the influence of test set-up, method, and procedure.

Maintain good employee relations with technology center staff and internal/external customers.

Ensure department safety compliance to ISO 14001 and 45001.

Skill Requirements

Knowledge of software and tools to effectively manage coordination and on time completion of testing across multiple pieces of equipment in a laboratory.

Knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements and safety standards.

Experience with testing fluid transportation assemblies (Brake, Fuel, Coolant, AC) and fuel tank & delivery systems preferred.

Demonstrated experience managing employee performance and team output, effectively work with others and motivate a large team.

Ability to read engineering drawings/documents and working knowledge of engineering math.

High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

Proficient computer skills and abilities with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or related field) required.

Minimum of 10 years related experience in an automotive test lab environment.

Management/Supervisory experience required.

Licensing or Special Certification Requirements

Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

Regular and predictable attendance.

Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions

Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 pounds.

Frequently spends time standing, walking, lifting and bending.

Works within an automotive component manufacturing laboratory setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.
