Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – Barnes Full‑time Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)

Base hourly pay: $37.69 – $60.21.

Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Cardiac Diagnostic Lab provides non‑invasive diagnostic services to inpatient and outpatient populations in partnership with Washington University Physicians.

Position Details

Day shift hours: 4–10 hour shifts per week (7 am–5:30 pm) with rotating days off.

Saturday rotation: approximately once a month (8 hr shift 7:30–4:00) with an additional day off.

Closed on Sundays and all major holidays.

No after‑hours call required.

Supported by BJH CDL South and BJH CDL CAM.

Performs complex transthoracic echocardiography exams at various locations across the campus.

Uses primarily GE equipment, newer GE E95 machines, PICOM Imaging/Reporting system, EPIC.

Lab partnered with Washington University School of Medicine to provide state‑of‑the‑art multi‑modality echocardiographic imaging.

Executes ASE‑guided, non‑invasive cardiovascular testing in an IAC‑accredited lab for diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease or injury, including advanced pathologies and anatomies (3‑D echocardiography, transplanted heart and lungs, assist device placement and management, transcatheter valvular repair/replacement, congenital abnormalities, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, placement of closure devices for patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects, and research protocols).

Conducts testing in routine, non‑routine urgent, and emergent patient care situations.

Modalities include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress transthoracic echocardiography.

Responsibilities

Performs complex echocardiography exams at various locations on campus.

Evaluates all aspects of cardiovascular patient clinical assessment for cardiac conditions and recognizes abnormalities.

Reviews and correlates relevant patient history, including corrective procedures and surgeries; applies independent clinical judgement to capture appropriate anatomical, pathophysiological, and clinical conditions in images.

Acquires advanced modalities as trained, including 3‑D, right heart strain, TAPSE, PISA, transcatheter pre/post valvular repair/replacement, HOCM, etc.

Communicates with the healthcare team to collaborate on care, reviews exam images, synthesizes results, and prepares preliminary findings to support the interpreting physician’s final diagnostic report.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s Degree or Trade School equivalency.

RDCS Registry (required).

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.

Experience
