Overview Our team members are the heart of what makes us better. The Outpatient Coder I will accurately abstract data following ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines across the HMH network, and enter data into the electronic medical record system.
Responsibilities
Assign codes to clinical services performed for reimbursement and data collection.
Code and abstract patient encounters, including diagnostic, surgical, procedural information, and complications.
Assess documentation and communicate with clinicians for missing information.
Analyze medical records for deficiencies and produce quality reports.
Assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes.
Apply NCCI and NCD/LCD edits.
Maintain productivity and quality metrics.
Report unusual circumstances or errors to management.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of coding for professional services.
Strong knowledge of physiology, medical terminology, and anatomy.
Proficient computer skills, typing speed, and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Ability to achieve and maintain coding quality and productivity standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with outpatient ICD-10, CPT, and E&M coding.
Registered Health Information Technician, Administrator, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Professional Coder.
AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
Compensation Minimum rate: $34.65 hourly. Base compensation may vary based on experience, education, and other factors. Additional benefits include health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement.
