Responsibilities
Perform thorough multi-point inspections on incoming used vehicles Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic equipment Conduct repairs and maintenance, including brakes, suspension, engine, transmission, electrical systems, and HVAC Prepare used vehicles for resale by ensuring they meet dealership and state safety standards Accurately document all work performed and parts used in repair orders Collaborate with service advisors and used car managers to prioritize repairs and meet deadlines Maintain a clean and organized work area Adhere to all safety and environmental guidelines Facilitate customer satisfaction and repeat business by following all manufacturer specifications for vehicle systems repairs Operate diagnostic equipment to accurately determine the cause of malfunction codes with the vehicle’s integrated computer system When needed, conduct routine maintenance such as checking fluids, rotating tires, replacing brake pads, and oil changes Clearly articulate automotive repair issues and repairs needed to remedy them to both customers and auto mechanics Apply a checklist-based approach to ensure a comprehensive examination of all vehicle systems, including the engine, air conditioning, transmission, and brake systems Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training is a plus Minimum of 2 years of experience as an automotive technician, preferably with used vehicles ASE certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain) Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment Owning basic hand tools, the dealership or shop may provide specialty tools Must have completed a post‑secondary training program in automotive service technology; associate degree a plus ASE certification or comparable standard service technician credential, such as SAE, is attractive Excellent customer service and communications skills are necessary Compensation
