ATC Automation is looking for a mid-senior level
Mechanical Designer
to join our team in Cookeville, TN. This position will join the Applications Quoting Team to support the concept and design process of custom assembly solutions. The mechanical designer creates 2D and 3D designs and detail drawings of automated assembly and test equipment starting from application concepts and customer specifications. This position plans, designs, and coordinates the integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes. This position requires a high mechanical aptitude to design custom automation with a high level of proficiency, minimal to no guidance from management or mentors.
This is a mid-senior-level position, capable of designing and troubleshooting complex mechanical functions while working independently. The Mechanical Designer shall possess the following traits at a minimum: independent thinker, strong conceptual skills, strong understanding of machining fundamentals and material properties, strong communication skills both verbal and written, the ability to present conceptual and engineering concepts in an effective manner to customers and peers, strong time management, budgetary awareness, strong decision making capability, and strong leadership traits. This position reports to the team business unit manager.

How You’ll Contribute
Create preliminary or final drawing using 2D and 3D computerized software such as SolidWorks.
Define dimensions, angles, curvatures, and relationships.
Utilize mathematics and knowledge of machine design practices.
Knowledge of computer assisted design/drafting equipment.
Knowledge of materials properties and design practices for fixtures and tooling.
Select materials and components to be used.
Create detail bill of materials.
Responsible for issuing revised drawings as controlled documents.
Communicate with customers to determine specifications and lead internal design initiatives.
Knowledge and setup of layout, machining and assembly.
Responsible for specifying components to meet project budget.
Lead and present at customer review meetings.
Travel is required as needed.
What We’re Looking For
High School diploma and Vocational Technical School diploma.
8+ years of experience as a machine designer.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in custom automation.
Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or engineering technology is preferred.
Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D design package.
Physical Requirements
Work in standing/sitting position continuously.
Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
Physically be underneath machines working overhead.
Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
VISUAL ACUITY: Near acuity with or without accommodation.
HEARING Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose, with or without accommodation.
Work Environment
High noise levels from operating machines.
Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.
Breathing fumes, dust and mist.
Skin exposure to oil and fluids.
