Job Summary
Respiratory Care assists physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel in caring for, diagnosing, and treating patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities by applying therapeutic, preventive, and diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities
Administers treatments and medications that promote pulmonary hygiene, improve pulmonary function, and improve respiratory status.
Implements oxygen, gas, and humidity therapy. Maintains oxygen and humidity devices and emergency equipment.
Performs oximetry, safely obtains blood samples, and verifies accuracy of results.
Sets up, monitors, and maintains invasive and noninvasive ventilatory and oxygenation devices; recognizes and corrects malfunctions or inappropriate settings.
Strong patient care and customer services skills: provides high quality care and diagnostic services that are appropriate, efficient and effective; communicates effectively with a wide variety of patients, ages, and physical conditions.
Participates in patient assessments/evaluations, maintenance of airways and ventilation, resuscitation efforts and other emergency medical treatments.
Able to work independently as well as part of a team, self‑motivated, dependable and reliable.
Stocks supplies, prepares ventilators/BiPAP and other equipment for immediate use; maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Proficiently performs all assigned tasks; manages patient flow; handles preparation, procedure and charges.
Demonstrates efficient multi‑tasking skills, organizational ability and time management; uses electronic health records and computer skills in stressful situations.
Provides proper patient information, medical history and performs necessary duties in accordance with policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Active license to practice Respiratory Care through the Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required; CRT credentialed from the National Board of Respiratory Care or LPN with competencies for Respiratory Care completed.
Excellent communication skills, thoroughness and attention to detail; able to work independently and as a team member in an efficient and organized manner; possesses mature thought, sound judgement and technical accuracy.
Preferred
RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) or CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist).
