Overview
UNC Health Care is recruiting for a Gaming and Technology Specialist to join our UNC Children’s Hospital team located on the beautiful campus of UNC Chapel Hill. This role combines child development knowledge with technology and innovation to facilitate enriching experiences for our pediatric patients. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse background, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and creativity to support patients and families through various media platforms.
Position offers variable hours, Sunday through Saturday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., including holiday options.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to determine appropriate gaming and technology recommendations for individualized interventions and resources, or refer for additional services within the overall treatment plan.
Plan all needed gaming and technology resources to support patient coping and adjustment needs, including distraction, relaxation, and normalization.
Develop or revise programs and interventions to reflect current patient needs, interests, and abilities, ensuring safety and compliance with departmental performance expectations.
Provide technology assistance to Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, and Child Life to support therapeutic interventions.
Train and supervise gaming and technology volunteers and students.
Develop and facilitate community outreach programs that promote the organization and the health and wellbeing of patients in accordance with departmental performance expectations.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s Degree in child development, education, IT, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in computer support or equivalent training/experience.
Experience working with children, teens, and adults required; hospital setting experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical expertise with gaming systems, gaming technology, and computer technology.
Strong understanding of gaming platforms (Xbox, Sony, Nintendo, etc.).
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Excellent organizational skills, detail‑oriented, self‑starter, critical thinker, able to set priorities and function as part of a team and independently.
