Physical Therapist – Per Diem 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)
Join Keck Medicine of USC as a Physical Therapist in a per diem 8‑hour day role. You will develop and implement physical therapy services, direct patient care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and comply with all applicable regulations. Under the supervision of the Chief of Physical Therapy, you will provide care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients across a range of diagnoses. Major duties include patient evaluation, treatment planning, documentation, participation in care conferences, delegation to support staff, meeting productivity goals and engaging in continuous improvement activities. After one year of experience, you will serve as a clinical instructor for first‑year interns.
Responsibilities
Initiate patient care upon referral, including evaluation and treatment planning.
Manage all aspects of physical therapy intervention and maintain required documentation.
Attend clinic and rounds as patient care responsibilities allow, and provide written updates when unable to attend.
Provide education and discharge recommendations to other team members.
Lead physician rounds/clinics and coordinate all communication between physician and therapist.
Maintain a full patient caseload and support departmental efficiency.
Adapt schedule to last‑minute changes while managing a lead caseload.
Organize unscheduled non‑productive time to improve department efficiency.
Apply skills across a variety of disciplines (acute, outpatient, cardiac, wound care, neuro, etc.).
Assume staffing and patient care delivery as lead PT.
Provide education and evaluate performance of students and new staff per department policy.
Deliver formal education to internal or external departments as needed.
Attend at least one professional meeting annually (district, state, national) or be a member of APTA.
Publish, present, participate in clinical research, or serve on APTA committees.
Lead special projects assigned by Department Director or Chief.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Strong customer‑service orientation.
Proficiency in evaluation, treatment techniques and goal‑oriented plan development.
Team‑leadership ability and program development skills.
Advanced knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, psychosocial issues and advanced physical medicine theory.
Knowledge of therapy agents, precautions, contraindications and their effects across patient populations.
Understanding of isolation, sterile technique and related applications.
Familiarity with PMR hospital policies and procedures.
Preferred
Master’s degree in Physical Therapy.
Experience in the health field.
Licenses / Certifications
Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in California (CA DCA) or licensed applicant status with California licensure within 90 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if not held at hire, must be obtained within 30 days and renewed as required.
Compensation The hourly rate for this position ranges from $46.00 to $76.07, considering scope, experience, education, skills and market factors.
