Overview When the unit is full, the LPN works with RNs with the highest acuity or is paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. When the UNL has patients, the LPN pairs with the UNL to assist with the UNL patient load. LPN tasks may include oral medications, IV piggyback medications, trach care, dressing changes, and documentation on assessments and care plans after the RN has completed the first assessment and initiated the care plan.

Qualifications

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)

College Diploma: Licensed Practical Nurse (Required)

Responsibilities

Pass all medications, hang IV piggyback and fluids, excluding IV push medications.

Chart assessments on assigned patients after the RN has charted the initial assessment.

Chart on care plans opened by the RN; assist with new care plans as needed.

Communicate with physicians/APPs to receive orders and coordinate care.

Complete dressing changes as needed.

Complete trach care as needed.

Insert and care for NG tube and feedings via NG tube.

Care for and change ostomy.

Reinforce education and discharge instructions.

Complete annual education assigned to comply with DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements, if applicable.

Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $23.90 per hour – $39.91 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
