The Dell Medical School is seeking a Registered Nurse for General Surgery in the Outpatient Clinic.
Purpose The Outpatient Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in an outpatient setting, ensuring high-quality care and patient satisfaction. Reporting to the Clinic Supervisor, the RN collaborates closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and administrative staff. Key responsibilities include patient assessments, administering medications, coordinating care plans, and educating patients and their families.
Responsibilities Patient Assessment and Care Planning
Conducts initial patient assessments and obtains medical histories.
Develops and implements individualized care plans.
Monitors patient progress and adjusts care plans as needed.
Medication Administration
Administers prescribed medications and treatments.
Ensures proper dosage and compliance with treatment regimens.
Monitors patients for adverse reactions and reports findings.
Patient Education
Educates patients and their families about medical conditions and treatment options.
Provides guidance on self-care techniques and preventive health measures.
Conducts follow-up education sessions as needed.
Clinical Procedures
Performs minor medical procedures such as wound care and suture removal.
Assists physicians with diagnostic tests and minor surgeries.
Prepares and maintains sterile environments for procedures.
Documentation and Coordination
Documents patient care in electronic health records (EHR).
Coordinates with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care.
Manages patient appointments and follow-up care.
Inventory Management
Conducts periodic inventory checks and restocks supplies.
Ensures availability of necessary medical equipment.
Telephone Triage
Provides medical advice and guidance to patients over the phone.
Assesses patient needs and directs them to appropriate care.
Quality Improvement
Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Assists with data collection and analysis for performance improvement.

Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
3 years of relevant experience in an outpatient or clinical setting.
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
5 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Salary Range $82,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Standard office equipment.
Repetitive use of a keyboard.
Potential exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients.
