Summary of Job Duties The Surgical Scrub Technician in Interventional Radiology (IR) supports the IR team by providing high‑quality, sterile instrumentation and assisting during minimally invasive, image‑guided procedures.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Graduate of an accredited Scrub Technologist program, surgical scrub tech training through the military, or a minimum of two years of surgical/scrub experience at an acute care facility or ambulatory surgery center.

Ability to follow oral instruction, read, and write

Responsibilities

Scrubbing for Interventional Radiology procedures including assembling and preparing supplies.

Assists in circulating duties with an RN.

Ensures that the room has been prepared for upcoming cases, with appropriate equipment available and ready for use.

Ensures availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases.

Assembles supplies for Interventional Radiology procedures, maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments and supplies, and assists in room preparation.

Exhibits practical knowledge of IR equipment, including maintenance and safety aspects.

Educates and prepares patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, draping and positioning the patient, and preparing procedural/testing sites.

Assists the physician with performing diagnostic and therapeutic vascular interventional procedures.

Educates the patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure the patient's understanding and cooperation.

Assists with monitoring patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.

Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.

Troubleshot, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary and keeps coworkers informed of status.

Responsible for daily work assignments.

Serves in an active role in maintaining ACR accreditation and various JCAHO, FDA, and ODH inspections.

Assists in interviewing, selection, and orientation/training of new staff members.

Ensures proper staff education requirements.

Actively involved in the discipline process when necessary.

Keeps rooms stocked and equipment cleaned according to department standards.

Adheres to the time and attendance policy and discusses any variation from the schedule with the manager.

Demonstrates willingness to assist in departmental changes to improve workflow and learn new functions and duties as needed to keep the department viable.

Participates in a rotating on‑call schedule

Performs other duties as required or directed.

Other duties may be assigned to this position.
