Job Summary Provide direct support to dentists, hygienists, denturists and other provider personnel in the delivery of dental care and service within a Kaiser Permanente dental office.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform all duties permitted to a dental assistant as allowed by the State Dental Practice Act and related Administrative Rules, including application of topical anesthetic, removal of sutures, retraction of tissues, assistance with rubber dam placement, debris removal, extra‑oral procedures, mirror inspection of the oral cavity, root canal dressing, temporary filling placement, impression taking for periodontal night guards, coronal polishing, patient education on oral hygiene, film placement and exposure.
Assists with orthodontic procedures such as band selection and sizing, band removal, bracket removal, wire placement, elastic and separator use, intra‑oral measurements, bracket bonding removal, patient education, film placement and exposure, record organization, patient greeting and rapport building, health questionnaire review, and emergency response.
Anticipate provider needs, maintain scheduling flow, organize and pass instruments and supplies, keep the operative field clean, record and verify patient information, enter and retrieve data via TEAM, handle medical emergencies, expose and process radiographs, record blood pressure, process instruments, maintain a clean work environment, perform preventive maintenance of equipment, and report equipment issues to management.
Perform other duties assigned by office manager or supervisory personnel consistent with training and experience, including matrix retainer placement, amalgam polishing, excess cement removal, impressions for diagnostics and temporary restorations, rubber dam placement and removal, nitrous oxide monitoring, and other EFDA‑authorized tasks.
Experience Minimum One (1) year of experience as a dental assistant OR graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting program.
Education High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon)
Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate (Oregon) within 6 months of hire
Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon) within 3 months of hire
Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire
Additional Requirements
Demonstrated competence in four‑handed dentistry technique.
Satisfactory level of knowledge and proficiency in current dental materials, instruments and equipment.
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under direct and indirect supervision.
Well organized in use of time and effort.
Professional courtesy with patients, providers and employees; good interpersonal skills.
Excellent attendance record.
Final candidate must pass a clinical pre‑employment skills test.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of sterilization and infection control equipment.
