Job Summary Assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing disorders. Initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures; maintains patient records; and selects, assembles, checks, and operates equipment.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates competency in respiratory therapeutics and use of non‑invasive ventilators, pulmonary diagnostics, and other equipment.
Maintains accurate documentation.
Communicates openly with all members of the healthcare team.
Performs quality control of arterial blood gas analyzers and specimen collection.
Instructs clinical practicum students.
Provides care appropriate to patient age and medical condition.
Education & Training
Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or related program (certification accepted for those licensed prior to December 31, 1987).
Must be eligible for the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) examination.
Basic computer and mechanical training required.
Licensure & Certification
Active license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Florida.
RRT credential must be updated every five years if registered after July 1, 2002; pre‑2002 credential may remain valid.
Valid BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
