Job Summary

Adjunct Faculty are professional educators who work on a limited basis and have the primary responsibility of fulfilling Texas Southmost College’s mission, vision, values and goal of providing quality education for all students enrolled at the college. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor and facilitator of learning. They report to the College President through the chain of command and are accountable to college policies and procedures.

Plan optimal learning environment, provide high quality instruction and advising, participate in development of learning outcomes and assess students and self‐teaching techniques to increase effectiveness.

Manage learning environments: develop accurate syllabi incorporating departmental and college requirements; maintain attendance records; submit grades; provide constructive feedback; conduct classes punctually.

Deliver effective instruction: assume primary responsibility for curriculum development; consider student differences; use digital learning solution to meet course objectives; communicate expectations concerning digital learning and other technologies.

Enhance student learning experience by integrating concrete, real‑life situations to encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills and teamwork; work with students and employers in occupational settings.

Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve measurable learning outcomes, including THECB core curriculum objectives and Texas Southmost College objectives.

Assess student learning by designing assessments that demonstrate student growth; sequence learning opportunities; align assessment with learning outcomes.

Promote continual improvement by developing and revising curriculum, using defined student learning outcomes to plan, develop, document and evaluate teaching effectiveness.

Support institutional effectiveness by understanding SOAPs; complete mandatory performance evaluations; share best practices; strive for improved educational effectiveness.

Support learning through student engagement: create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning; support student and faculty interaction.

Maintain a learning‑centered environment by being available to students during designated work period.

Support student learning by making students aware of and referring them to appropriate student and academic support services.

Pursue professional development: take graduate courses or internal classes; maintain required credentials, licensing and continuing education hours.

Participate collegially in discipline‑specific activities developed for adjunct faculty.

Handle sensitive and extensive confidential information.

Attend workplace regularly, report to work punctually and follow the schedule.

Complete duties in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines.

Promote positive morale and teamwork within the functional unit and provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty and the community.

Use interpersonal skills and make sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed.

Complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College.

Support values and institutional goals as defined in the College’s Strategic Plan.

Assist with systematic review and evaluation of the planning unit, including development and monitoring of outcomes and action plans.

Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.

Perform duties and responsibilities within a high‑tech all‑digital environment; perform other duties as assigned.
