Job Description The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an individual to serve vulnerable adults in the Omaha area as a Child and Family Services Specialist Trainee – Adult Protective Services. The trainee will manage cases and provide protective services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and financial exploitation; conduct safety assessments; determine vulnerability; establish safety plans; and initiate court interventions.
Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans and coordinate appropriate services.
Prepare cases for legal staff and testify in court.
Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health, and medical professionals to develop community resources and inform the public of protection and safety services.
Perform crisis intervention and provide documentation and correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or another closely related field.
Consideration will be given to applicants who are in the final semester of their Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a Children and Family Services Specialist with the state of Nebraska.
Experience working with vulnerable adults.
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license and ability to provide independent authorized transportation or use of a state vehicle.
Ability to travel for face‑to‑face visits and appointments dependent on caseload location.
Must be available to be on call on a rotating basis, including 24/7 work cell phone availability during on‑call periods.
