Job Summary
The RN - Clinical Systems is responsible for implementing, supporting, and optimizing clinical information systems across nursing and patient care areas. This role collaborates with clinical staff, IT, and other stakeholders to assess system needs, provide training, and develop workflows that align with clinical practice standards. The Informaticist ensures clinical systems meet regulatory requirements, enhance patient care, and improve operational efficiency.
Essential Functions
Implements and maintains clinical systems, including EHRs, CPOE, and BCMA
Collaborates with nursing staff to assess clinical workflow and recommend process improvements
Develops and conducts training sessions for clinical staff on new systems and system upgrades
Troubleshoots system issues and provides first-level support to end‑users
Analyzes clinical data to assess system effectiveness and identify areas for optimization
Develops documentation, policies, and procedures for clinical system usage
Assists with change management efforts related to clinical systems implementation
Monitors compliance with regulatory standards and clinical documentation requirements
Liaises with IT and clinical leadership to align technology with patient care goals
Participates in quality improvement initiatives and clinical informatics projects
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Expectations
In-depth knowledge of clinical informatics systems and clinical workflows
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to train staff and develop educational materials
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic)
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to travel up to 50% for multi‑site implementation and support
Qualifications Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Informatics or related field preferred
Licenses / Certifications
Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required
Certification in Healthcare Informatics (e.g., ANCC, HIMSS) preferred
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting required
Experience with EHR/EMR systems implementation and support preferred
