Summary The Emergency Department Technician 2 (ED Tech II) is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) who provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Paramedic. The ED Tech II reports to the Nurse Manager and receives daily shift supervision by the Charge Nurse.

Education High school or equivalent (GED).

Certification, Registration & Licensure

National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Advanced (EMT-A) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)

Basic Life Support – American Heart Association

Experience One year of prior experience as an EMT or LNA.

Responsibilities

Respond to requests for patient care assistance as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN).

Maintain skill level to perform patient care tasks, including intravenous catheter insertion and medication administration, as delegated by the RN.

Administer medications as delegated by the RN.

Collect and process laboratory specimens.

Maintain department supplies and equipment.

Assist with clerical duties.

Perform job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.

Serve as a preceptor for new employees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear, frequently required to bend, speak, squat, stand, and walk, and occasionally required to do repetitive motion, kneel, perform activities that require fine motor skills, reach, and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
