Job Summary The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in assisted living. The NA provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a charge nurse. The NA assists with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care. Depending on location, the NA may assist with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and provide range of motion and passive exercises. The NA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for residents, and assists with meals, snacks, water, and supplements. The NA may aid providers and nursing staff with procedures, collect non-invasive specimens, gather vital signs, and administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse within state regulations. The NA documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and diet, and communicates changes in condition and concerns to the charge nurse. The NA may also provide housekeeping, laundry, and support with wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
Qualifications
High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
Minimum age of 16.
Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in assisted living preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
Complete yearly departmental competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits; a minimum of 12 hours annually.
Maintain all required department certifications.
When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
Depending on facility responsibilities, may be required to qualify as a Sanford Category II Driver with proof of valid driver’s license and medical fitness per Sanford Driving Policy.
