Job Summary The Career Specialist helps program participants become economically self-sufficient through intensive job readiness training, job search assistance and placement, and retention activities. He/she works closely with the Program Director and the Director of Career Services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Must have 2+ years experience in workforce development or Education
Critical thinker and problem solver
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure in a fast pace environment
Meet goals of strategic plan; work well under pressure
Excellent grammar and writing abilities
Effective communicator
Able to collaborate with others; collect, analyze and interpret data
Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for identifying career placements
Assist the Director of Career Services
Support students in the exploration of career clusters and selection of an area of academic focus within a cluster of study
Learn and become familiar with ways to improve and promote career development opportunities within the district
Assist the Director of Career Services with the selection, administration and evaluation of career interest inventories
Assist in the development and planning on career development
Assist with the coordination of community resources and citizens representing diverse occupations in career development activities for students
Monitor and evaluate program progress
Assist participants with resume and cover letter development
Provide weekly performance reports and communicate challenges affecting outcomes
Coordinate and lead the delivery of evidence-based services based on best practices and risk-factor research. This includes ongoing case management and direct support for students, including goal setting and individual/group sessions and some opportunities for individual, intensive support services
Assist students with identifying personal interests and life goals by administering aptitude tests
Incorporate various methods to provide basic skills remediation for students; tutoring and study skills training that will lead to literacy and numeracy skill increases
Provide students with an opportunity to explore careers and understand labor market information, using a variety of career exploration tools and experiences
Work with students to increase communication skills, interviewing skills, writing skills, and appropriate work attire suggestions as it relates to the workplace. Review students' resumes and cover letters and provide feedback
Assist students with job search skills, making contact with prospective employers and completing job applications
Collaborate with Work Experience Specialist to provide work experience activities to youth that offer career exploration and skill development to enhance the youth’s work readiness skills
