PRN (12‑hour shifts)
Job Summary The Registered Respiratory Therapist PRN Tier 1 has advanced knowledge and training of the cardiopulmonary system used to manage and treat patients. Therapists utilize various scientific principles, therapies, and techniques to optimize patient care and outcomes.
Essential Functions of the Role
Perform and direct administration of respiratory care services (oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication, airway clearance, ventilation, bedside spirometry) as ordered by attending physician following established procedures.
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
Review physician orders, analyze diagnostic test results, and provide appropriate therapy based on current clinical condition.
Implement approved protocols directed by physician when appropriate.
Perform routine and advanced respiratory therapy, prioritizing patient needs in a rapidly changing environment.
Instruct patients in use of various equipment in a thorough, professional manner.
Assess patient response to therapy and coach to improve technique.
Document all treatments & supplies used, file charges accurately.
Report outcomes, make recommendations as appropriate.
Adhere to policies (infection control, HIPAA, attendance, social media).
Collaborate professionally with employees, healthcare professionals, and students.
Take initiative to complete professional/technical requirements set by leadership.
Incorporate continuous quality improvement principles into clinical care.
Key Success Factors
General understanding of respiratory modalities, therapies, equipment, medications.
Ability to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols.
Work under stressful conditions.
Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
General computer skills (typing, EMR, scanning, email).
Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree (or 2 years work experience above minimum).
Experience: Less than 1 year.
Certification/Licensure: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire; Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) licensed by Texas Board; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from National Board.
