Responsibilities
Supervise, direct, and train laboratory personnel across one or more small laboratories or a large laboratory.
Perform complex clinical laboratory analyses, including biochemical, microbiological, cytological, and histological procedures.
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, implementing quality control and proficiency testing programs in accordance with regulatory agencies.
Develop, review, and revise laboratory policies, procedures, and work logs to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Prepare and present technical reports, data summaries, and expert testimony in court or other proceedings.
Plan and conduct training sessions for laboratory staff, and oversee the preparation of laboratory samples for proficiency testing.
Assist in annual budget preparation, procurement of supplies, and ordering of equipment.
Interview applicants and liaise with administrative personnel regarding staffing and policy matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
For Levels IV and V: Must meet the laboratory supervisor qualification requirements outlined in Title 10, Section 58‑1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.
Department Preferences & Notes
Qualifying experience is not limited to New York State.
Licensed cytotechnologists or histotechnologists may only be assigned work, including supervision, within their licensed discipline.
Licensed clinical laboratory technologists may supervise personnel across all laboratory disciplines.
