Job Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) is positioned within the workforce to gather, screen, communicate, and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse, as per scope of practice. The MA performs a combination of clerical and direct patient care duties.
Responsibilities
Clerical duties such as greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and updating the electronic medical record (EMR).
Clinical duties including rooming patients, taking medical histories, performing and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms for procedures, explaining treatment procedures to patients, and facilitating patient flow through the office.
Assisting the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant during examinations.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program.
Completes and maintains all competencies and trainings as required for the role.
Experience
No prior experience required.
Certification and Licensure
BLS Certification.
Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, or NHA. Certifications outside of these require THMG Leadership Approval.
Required Skills
Computer skills including use and navigation of EMR systems.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
General clerical skills.
