Job Description The University of Missouri‑Kansas City School of Dentistry seeks to fill the position of Department Chair, Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine. The faculty appointment may be at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor (tenure‑eligible/tenure track) or ranked, non‑tenure track Associate Clinical Professor/Clinical Professor.
The position is a 12‑month, benefit‑eligible, full‑time position. One day per week may be reserved for private practice, research, development and other school‑related activities. Rank and tenure status will be based on experience and credentials. A successful record of externally funded research is required to be considered for the tenure‑eligible positions.
The department is responsible for pre‑doctoral and advanced education training for students, patient care, service and research in oral pathology, radiology, and medicine. Responsibilities of the position include pre‑doctoral classroom and clinical instruction oversight and general oversight responsibility for the Oral Pathology faculty practice. The ideal candidate will be board‑certified in the area of Oral Radiology or Oral Pathology or Oral Medicine.
Responsibilities
Leadership in oversight of the strategic direction and daily operations of the department including scheduling, staffing responsibilities, management of faculty/staff workloads and assignments.
Mentorship of departmental faculty and staff.
Regular meetings with the dean to advance important departmental issues.
Supervision of the activities of the Department including responsibility for departmental curriculum, clinical operations/education of students and advanced education residents and patient care in the disciplines of the department.
Oversight of the biopsy service.
Primary focus on departmental goals of educating competent dental practitioners and quality of care for patients.
Compliance with CODA standards, UMKC School of Dentistry and campus policies, UM Collected Rules and Regulations and other state and federal applicable regulations.
Participation in the monthly administrator meeting and timely communication to the department faculty and staff regarding important issues including those from the administrator meetings.
In addition to the above, candidates for a tenure‑eligible appointment should possess:
Teaching experience or potential for teaching and pedagogy philosophy.
Demonstrated potential for or evidence of research and scholarly activity.
Demonstrated or potential for service to the profession and/or participation in local, state or national professional organizations.
Qualifications A DDS or DMD degree with eligibility for Missouri licensure is required. https://pr.mo.gov/dental.asp. Board eligibility in Oral Radiology, Oral Pathology, or Oral Medicine are required.
Anticipated Hiring Range Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a 12‑month, benefit‑eligible, full‑time faculty appointment eligible for non‑tenure or tenure track and ranked promotion. One day per week may be reserved for private practice, research, development and/or other school‑related activities. Rank and tenure status will be based on experience and credentials.
