Charge Nurse

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities
Communicate with family members regarding the progress of the resident.
Assist visiting physicians in rounds.
Draw blood and obtain fluids for lab work.
Record and monitor the progress of residents and communicate with physicians according to facility policies. Assist in dining area and feeding when required.
Monitor the work of other nursing staff in the unit to ensure thoroughness and assist with tasks as needed.
Use telephone to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for doctor appointments, and contact families.
Make rounds to insure cleanliness and proper care of residents.
Coordinate care of residents in accordance with their care plans.
Effectively manage all nursing staff assigned to the unit.
Complete various reports as needed.
Monitor personal and staff compliance to all State and federal requirements including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
Monitor personal and staff compliance to resident’s rights.
Assure that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules.
Replace nursing staff that call in sick with additional staff. Provide nursing services when sufficient staff cannot be attained.
Essential Job Duties and Physical Requirements Regular worksite attendance.
Must have a valid Kansas nursing license that is in good standing with the State.
Must have basic computer skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.
Employee is required to use a transfer/gait belt or to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to assist residents when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds. The employee must be aware that during the normal, routine performance of the essential functions, some of the following body movements may occur naturally, although they may not be a requirement of the job.
This is a supervisory position. Employee is required to handle employees in a manner that assists them in their ability to function effectively. Employee may be asked to perform other duties not listed above. Such duties will be within the scope of the employee’s training and ability.
