Overview Position: Medical Assistant

Location: OHC - Fairfield

Weekly Hours: 40

OHC – Specialists in Cancer and Blood disorders is seeking a medical assistant to join our team at our Fairfield practice. As the only independent adult cancer program in the region, we offer Medical, Radiation, Blood and Marrow Transplant, Gynecologic, and Breast Surgical Oncology services. OHC supports a robust cancer research and clinical trials program, neuro‑oncology, cancer genetics specialists and supportive care program.

Our medical assistants play an important role by assisting our team of providers, and by offering kind, compassionate care to our patients. OHC has been fighting cancer on the front lines for more than 40 years. We are now one of the nation’s largest independent oncology practices, as well as the region’s premier source of treatment for nearly every form of adult cancer and complex blood disorder. Responsibilities

Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate

Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes

Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures

Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed

Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested

Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician

Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols

Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist

Phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN

Inform physician of patient reschedules and no shows

Perform other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician

Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred. This is an entry level position requiring 0‑3 years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant. Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire. Certified Medical Assistant preferred. Some state regulations may require specific certifications to work as a Medical Assistant.
